Panorama Landscape City Assen
In Panorama Landscape City Assen, we present ingredients to build a liveable and inclusive future. A life-size carpet and six hovering panoramas show how the landscape can sprout again in the city.
In a way that suits Assen and tackles the worn-out spots in the northern city center. This takes shape by connecting, strengthening and showcasing characteristic structures such as the Asserbos, the canal, the estates and village greens. This approach reconnects the XXL-scale of the landscape with the XXS-scale of the individual garden.
With this, Assen returns to the foundations on which it was built centuries ago: a landscape city that developed at the head of the canal, on the site of a former monastery. This has been worked out on six scale levels. From lush overcorners in the city center where a new urban forest germinated, to a cohesive canal around the center with a green profile and space for water collection, to new green brinks on petrified back yards and parking lots. And from green residential streets and recognizable water lines to new residential blocks in which collectivity and noaberschap in both the public space and new homes take shape.
From these ingredients come fine places to live, work, meet and relax. For people, plants and animals. The panorama is presented as a life-size rug depicting a future image of the city, the landscape and the stories of some 30 species of people and animals. Above it float six panoramas showing changes toward an inclusive and green public space and living environment.
Our Dreuplein redevelopment project is a concrete expression of this vision and is expected to be implemented within two years.
